The Parish Hall has been an integral part of the village since the early 1930s when the Parochial Church Council (PCC) was sold some church Glebe Land for a hall. The land and hall are still owned by the PCC.
Naturally, the intervening ninety years have taken a toll on the building and it is now in need of major refurbishment work – the roof is leaky, the kitchen is damp and the toilets are not great.
This, though, gives us a great opportunity to look forward and provide an updated hall suitable for the 21st century.
While working towards leasing the Hall from the PCC, the Parish Council engaged an architect and consulted with the public on the initial plans during 2021. After receiving a great deal of feedback, revised plans were submitted and planning permission obtained in 2022. Details of this may be found in the Planning Application page.
After many years’ work, the Parish Council obtained a 35-year lease on the Parish Hall in 2024 and is working to improve it. Sadly funding for such projects has become much more difficult to find than it used to be; a small advisory working group has been formed to investigate and recommend options for making improvements and explore such funding as is available, which is meeting frequently and regularly reporting to the Council. It is hoped that work to replace the roof will be starting in early 2025, although this is not yet certain.
The Council has launched a community questionnaire running during February 2025, which has been distributed in paper form to households in the village and made available to members of groups that use the Hall; this questionnaire may be completed on-line or, for those who prefer a paper form, downloaded in PDF form, printed and submitted according to the instructions on the form.
