The Parish Hall

You will have noticed that the Parish Hall has a new insulated roof.  This completed the first phase of refurbishing the Hall.  There has been a very active group meeting regularly to source funding for the next phases.  It has been identified that the next stage will be the insulation and heating for the hall – together with an upgrade of the toilets.  Although we recognise that the kitchen is also in need of a complete uplift, this has been identified as another stand-alone project.  The funding sources have all but dried up, but two large grant applications have recently been submitted.  The outcome of these will not be known until around Easter 2026.  Friends of Launton Parish Hall (FoLPH) have also been actively fundraising to help with the ‘Rescue our Hall’ project, and heavily involved with the plan of action.  They will post forthcoming fundraising events on the Launton Village Community Facebook page.  They regularly report on the progress at their quarterly open meetings.  The Parish Council are grateful for all the help and continued support they receive from FoLPH.

The front garden area of the Hall has also had a facelift.  A group, headed up by a Parish Councillor, raked over and re-seeded the grass area at the front and we are delighted to report this is now growing well.  There are also new planters placed on each side of the path.  These have been planted up with seasonal plants at present with large shrubs put in at a later stage.  We are grateful for the donation of topsoil from a parishioner.

Parish Council News

First of all, we apologize for the lack of communication from the Parish Council on their webpages and Facebook pages.   We will endeavour to post updates on a more regular basis.

We have been busy sorting out village matters.  The issue of dog bins overflowing has been a particular problem for a while now.   To help relieve the situation, we have bought an extra dog bin and are currently in discussion for getting this installed.  It will be situated next to the existing bin at Yew Tree Close, near the play area. Cherwell District Council are responsible for emptying these bins.

We are also negotiating with local firms to quote for the upkeep of the green areas we are responsible for.   Earlier in the year we had a report of a dead tree in The Glades, this will be taken down in December.  Our footpath warden regularly reports on issues regarding the footpaths and reports when closures are being made.

There has also been a great deal of talk in the village about the increased traffic situation. Double yellow lines, sleeping policeman and staggered gates at the entrance and exit of the village have all been suggested.  These comments will be passed to Oxfordshire County Council who will make the final decision on this subject.   The position of the traffic lights at the railway bridge will make it difficult to have staggered gates at that end of the village.

Following the awful fire in May at Bicester Motion, the Parish Council laid flowers at Garth Park and will make a donation to the Fire Fighters Charity.   Financial grants have been given to Island Pond Wood and also for the lights for the Christmas trees that will soon be erected around the village.
